Hairdressing Training offers step-by-step guidance videos, self-evaluation tests, worksheets and guides relating to hairdressing styles and techniques; the service is also mapped to the NVQ Hairdressing curriculum. This online resource can be found by clicking on the UCB Online Library tab, then going to the MyAthens page and by scrolling down the MyAthens page you will see the link to click on. Hairdressing Training has also launched a Facebook page.

Professional Beauty 2012 will be taking place at Excel, London, Sunday 4th March - Monday 5th March. The event includes conferences and seminars, such as BABTAC , CThA , The London International Nail Championships and the National Student Make-Up Competition

Tomorrow evening, 22nd November, on BBC 1 at 10.35pm, you can see a biopic that details the significance of Vidal Sassoon’s hairdressing career as well his early life, which included seven years in an orphanage and time as a soldier in the Israeli army. TV Programmes of Interest This Week

There are two TV programmes this week that might be of interest. The first is Skin Deep: the business of beauty which is a consumer show exploring the downside of treatments in the hair and beauty industry. Episode 1 (on screen tonight, 8.30pm on BBC3) includes a student who after visiting a salon for hair extensions was left with a bald patch.
Anyone interested in theatrical and special effects might want to watch the film Hellboy11: The Golden Army, which is on Friday 18th November on ITV1 at 10.35pm.

Over the next few weeks UCB final year Further Education students will have the opportunity to attend a presentation - ‘The Benefits of Higher Education and Student Financial Support’ The overall aim of this is to highlight the various progression routes here at UCB in 2012.

You can attend any of the following four sessions:

Monday 21^st November 10.00am – 11.30am or 2.00pm – 3.30pm

Thursday 24^th November 10.00am – 11.30am or 2.00pm – 3.30pm

These presentations will be held at Bar1 at the Maltings and coaches will be arranged to take students from Great Charles Street to the Maltings and return.

Series 7 of The Apprentice is now underway and next week sees the remaining candidates meeting Alan Sugar at the British Museum to discover what their next task is. The Great British Hairdresser
Currently on television is a 10-programme series which has salon stylists competing to be crowned the Great British Hairdresser by James Brown . The winner who survives the weekly challenges that are set will be awarded the job of styling the hair of an A-list star for the cover of Glamour magazine. The UK's first National Make-Up Awards for Make-Up Artists, will be taking place live on Monday 28th February 2011 at The Professional Beauty show held at ExCel Exhibition Centre, London. Young Beautician of the Year
Watch BBC3 on Tuesday 7th December 10.30pm- 11.30pm to see four beauticians competing to be named Young Beautician of the Year. The contestants will be showing their skills at waxing, tanning, a beauty quiz and two of the beauticians will be performing a 'yummy mummy' make over in the final round. A TV programme of interest is showing on BBC 3 10.30-11.30pm tomorrow (23rd November) - Young Hairdresser of the Year, presented by George Lamb. This is the first programme in a series of 5 programmes that features young people working in different trades. (Later in the series you will be able to see Young Beautician of the year).
