Style Birmingham Live 2012

The Style Birmingham Live events start this Saturday, 29th September. There are events taking place in various locations, such as the Bullring, Mailbox, Pavilions, Arcades and Independents. Secret Interview - TV Programme of Interest

Watch Channel 5 on Wednesday 5th September between 7pm - 8pm, to see episode 3 of 'Secret Interview'. This episode follows two hairstylists undergoing a week of bizarre challenges. Nicky Clarke, celebrity hairdresser, is secretly watching them and will offer one of them a job at the end of the week. If you want to pick up some interview techniques, this programme might be worth watching .

Just wanted to say a big welcome to any new or returning students. My name is Dianne Hudson and I am subject librarian for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy. I will be posting details of events and other hair or beauty information via this blog. There are two television programmes on Monday 23rd July that might be of interest.  Undercover Boss, Channel 4 at 9pm, sees former celebrity hairdresser Jacqui McIntosh, now a senior manager of The Francesco Group, going incognito to discover why the business is not doing as well as expected.
On BBC 2 at 9pm in  Horizon: The Truth About Looking Younger, plastic surgeon Rozina Ali explores how the ageing process affects human skin and why some skins age more than others.

The June print issue of The Salon magazine is now available at Richmond House. The Salon magazine is a trade publication that covers all aspects of the UK hairdressing and beauty therapy industry. Inside the June issue is a 'Facebook Masterclass' on how to be well 'liked' on Facebook. Also included is a feature on creating a male-friendly business menu to exploit the current growth of the professional male grooming market. If you watched the last series of  'The Apprentice' you might remember that male grooming products featured in one of the tasks.You can access the current and back issues of The Salon online from The Salon magazine website

BAFTA Televison Craft Awards 2012

 It was sad to hear of the death of Vidal Sassoon, the 1960s hairdressing legend, this week. See the BBC news site for the Obituary.

Beauty UK, Incorporating Holistic Health & Hair UK 2012

BeautyUK 2012 will be taking place on Sunday May 13th and Monday May 14th at the NEC in Birmingham. You will be able to see products and equipment, featuring Holistic, Nail and Tanning companies, plus the latest innovations in skin care, nails, tanning, beauty equipment and training. There will also be training seminars and workshops; plus the Midlands' heat of WorldSkills UK, with competition categories for 2012 including Advanced Beauty, Intermediate Beauty, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Nail Art, Nail Techniques and Theatrical & Media Make-Up. This year, the event also incorporates Holistic Health 2012 and Hair UK 2012.

TV Programmes of Interest for Theatrical Hair, Make-Up & Special Effects

On television this Sunday, 25th March, and of interest for theatrical hair, make-up, and special effects, is the new series, Titanic, starting at 9pm on ITV1, and the film Avatar, showing on Channel 4 at 5.50pm.

New Series of The Apprentice

The new series of The Apprentice starts next week, and one of the candidates is a beauty salon owner from Lancashire. If you want to observe how this candidate and all the others deal with the first challenge set them you can see the first programme of the series on Wednesday 21st March at 9.00pm on BBC1. The 2012 BAFTA Film Awards

The 2012 The Orange British Academy Film Awards took place yesterday, at London's Royal Opera House. See the BAFTA website for all the event information, including winner interviews, but here are the awards of interest.

Did you know that you don't need to check this blog to see the latest blog feeds? If you are logged in to UCB Online then you can click on the 'My News' tab which will then give you the option of seeing the latest blog posts for each school - in this case the 'Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy News'. Simply click on the post you are interested in and it will display on the screen.

Afro Hair and Beauty Live Show 2012

The 2012 Afro Hair and Beauty Live Show will be taking place on 3rd - 4th June. The event website will be launched soon, but you can buy tickets online now and if you buy your tickets before 31st March you can get two tickets for the price of one. Hairdressing Training Online Resource

Hairdressing Training offers step-by-step guidance videos, self-evaluation tests, worksheets and guides relating to hairdressing styles and techniques; the service is also mapped to the NVQ Hairdressing curriculum. This online resource can be found by clicking on the UCB Online Library tab, then going to the MyAthens page and by scrolling down the MyAthens page you will see the link to click on. Hairdressing Training has also launched a Facebook page.

Professional Beauty 2012 Exhibition

Professional Beauty 2012 will be taking place at Excel, London, Sunday 4th March - Monday 5th March. The event includes conferences and seminars, such as BABTAC , CThA , The London International Nail Championships and the National Student Make-Up Competition
The show is open only to trade and professional visitors over the age of 16, and you can register online at the Professional Beauty website. Professional Beauty has also launched a mobile website for the exhibitions arm of the business, so you can also register through this. See here for info.
